Why visit us

The settlement is located in two narrow valleys deeply cut into the mountain. The name of the settlement originated from the name of the Kupčina stream. Kupčina consists of several streams that spring below Pliješa Blaževa gora, and flows over the Sopot waterfall.

Franjo Julije Fras in the historical-statistical and topographical description of Žumberak in “Mjestopis iz god. 1835. ” in his book Topography of the Karlovac Military Region, states that an officer's guard is located in the village of Kupčina.

Right next to the house is a path that leads to the Old Town of Žumberak. About 700 years ago, medieval builders began building a city fortified with ramparts. It was built for military-strategic reasons - the border between the German Empire and the Croatian-Hungarian Kingdom had to be fortified and defended. The medieval name of the town was Sicherberg. Approximately 350 years after its formation, the fortress of the Old Town of Žumberak was abandoned.

The municipality is rich in natural beauty and offers great opportunities for hiking, hunting, fishing, cycling, etc. Manifestation worth mentioning are: Mountaineering trip St. Gera and Hike to the memorial area Jazovka, and throughout the year you can visit the museum in the monastery of the Basilian Sisters, Tadija Smičiklas Cultural Center, Library and Reading Room, Jazovka Memorial Area, Sopot Waterfall, Archaeological Site Stari grad and Archaeological Site Church of St. Nicholas.

A new visitor center has been built in the nearby village of Sošice in 2021., with the aim of improving the system of visits and education in the Žumberak Nature Park, with the purpose of sustainable use of natural heritage.
